Project Description The mission of the Arts-in-Medicine Program at The University of New Mexico is to transform the medical environment towards optimum healing by facilitating transformative, educational and rejuvenating artistic and creative encounters for patients, their families and professional caregivers throughout UNM Hospitals (UNMH). Bridging academia and community, art and science, the Arts-in-Medicine Program involves community artists, UNM College of Fine Arts and Health Sciences faculty and students, as well as health care professionals, patients, and volunteers from UNMH and communties-at-large. Creative Encounters for Patients and Their Families * Nite Lite: pain relief music, art, and life review at the bedside of adult units and live harp music for the intensive care units (UNMH) * Live music and open art studio in the Adult and Pediatric Emergency Room waiting areas (UNMH) * Live music, poetry workshops, creative movement classes, and open art studio for in-patient units at the Psychiatric Center * Live music, art, and massage at the Cancer Research and Treatment Center (CRTC) * Special workshops and presentations for patient support groups Creative Encounters for Medical Professionals * Roving Rejuvenators at UNMH: music, art, writing, yoga, and massage for medical professionals and hospital staff * Interactive workshops and presentations for nurses, physicians, and medical staff * All-day retreats for health care professionals Creative Encounters for the Community * Multicultural dance and music concert series * UNM Arts-in-Medicine courses For information regarding the course and research contact Dr. Patricia Ann Repar For all questions related to the clinical program contact Donna Burnett Eligibility There are no prerequisites for the Arts-in-Medicine course.
