Project Description Envision New Mexico is a statewide pediatric quality improvement program of UNM's Health Science Centers (UNM HSC) Department of Pediatrics. Partners: state agencies, Indian Health Service, the New Mexico Pediatric Society and the NM Assembly on School Based Health Care, to address the epidemic of obesity in New Mexico. Envision NM is dedicated to bringing quality improvement to the most rural communities in New Mexico. After attending a learning collaborative meeting in Albuquerque where providers learn the basics of the PDSA cycle and best practice with regards to obesity prevention; training and follow-up are brought to the providers in their communities. Examples of community projects include revitalizing a river walk along the Gallinas River that cuts through the town of Las Vegas, New Mexico this will greatly enhance opportunities for outside physical activity for families that Envision NM has been in existence for two years and in that time has been singled out for its innovative program. This fall Envision was one of three programs nationally to be awarded special recognition by the National Initiative for Child Healthcare Quality. In addition, Envision NM is unique for University programs in that it receives Medicaid Administrative matching funds for its program. Envision works in communities throughout the state including the Navajo Nation and pueblos.
