Project Description The Latin American & Iberian Institute (LAII) supports the administration of UNM's interdisciplinary degree programs in Latin American Studies and the university's Latin American and Iberian activities in all its schools and colleges with outreach to New Mexico, the nation and international communities. LAII and its student organization SOLAS regularly host speakers, film series, workshops, and conferences. LAII also has expert staff working on its various projects including information harvesting technology and partnerships to expand access to Latin America open archive collections , Latin America journalism, study abroad programs, and outreach to K-12 teachers. Teachers can visit the teaching materials lending library of Latin America resources. Cuba programs supported at LAII include research seminars, academic exchanges, and applied research on contemporary themes. LAII also manages agreements UNM with universities in 15 countries in Latin America and Iberia and with the Organization of American States, including semester exchange agreements with 31 universities in 10 countries are in place. The Latin American & Iberian Institute was formed to provide centralized support and coordination of the Latin America and Iberia-related activities conducted throughout UNM, including formal agreements between the university and counterparts in the regions abroad. LAII provides information outreach for teachers and others throughout New Mexico, the US and abroad on Latin America and Iberia.
