Project Description
Students and community members will design and create memorials which will be part of a UNM installation. Students will host a workshop for community members to build dresses and an alter piece reflecting the Juarez Femecides. There will also be panel discussions and a lecture series addressing the crisis in Juarez. Law students and the legal team from Juarez will address public policy. Rio De Lagrima, a live theatrical play will be presented, and dance is being created to examine the murders. This an interdisciplinary, community based, educational experience. Participants: Arts of the Americas,Dept.Theatre & Dance, Arts Education, UNM School of Law, The Peace & Justice Center, Amnesty International, Women?s Studies, SOLAS, El Centro de la Raza, and Women's Resource Center, LAII, Las Meganenas Theater Company, Chicano/Hispano/Mexicano Studies and the Westside Community Center.

Objectives:
Teach my students how to us art as a tool for social activism.
Engage the community to present art and information, and demonstrate how these horrible murders effect our local community and the global society.
Work with community oganizations to raise awareness of the murders and have a call to action plan.
Lend support to the families of the victims.
