Project Description
The purpose of the HEP program is to offer its participants the opportunity to earn a GED certificate through intensive GED preparatory instruction, one on one tutoring, academic and career advisement, and supportive services. Upon successful completion of the program, HEP provides assistance for placement into a post-secondary institution, career services, or military service. HEP is funded by the US Department of Migrant Education under the Department of Education.

HEP, in collaboration with established GED programs throughout New Mexico provides convenient GED instruction, support and academic services to 60 individuals and/or family members with migrant or seasonal farm worker backgrounds. It is expected that participants may be ready to take the GED exam in five months or less after their admission to this program.
 
Eligibility
The following pre-requisites are necessary in order to qualify for HEP program: Individuals that are not enrolled in school and lack a high school diploma or GED; At least 16 years of age or older; and Parent(s) or themselves have worked at least 75 days within the last two years in agriculture. Other agricultural activities may include: Activities related to the production or processing or crops, dairy products, poultry, or livestock. Activities related to the cultivation or harvesting of trees. Activities related to fish farms.
