Project Description 12 healthcare disciplines are involved, from 4 colleges/univ. in NM. Approx. 100 students develop PBL cases and meet weekly to discuss them in interdisciplinary teams over 10 weeks in the spring. Approx. 45 students spend 8 weeks in the summer doing rural clinical rotations and RHIP community service projects. Approx. 20 students remain in ABQ and do interdisciplinary community service projects in the summer. The program has existed since 1990, funded by DHHS/HRSA and partially supported by SOM/FCM. Federal funding ends in 3/07. Serves the following counties: San Juan, Cibola, McKinley, Taos, Santa Fe, San Miguel, Grant, Chavez, Bernalillo Objectives 1. Provide instruction in interdisciplinary rural healthcare (problem-based learning.) 2. Encourage students to chose a rural health job upon graduation from their program. 3. Conduct interdisciplinary community health projects in rural areas of NM and with underserved populations. 4. Provide rural health facilities a way to meet healthcare students so they can recruit them.
