Project Description The mission of the IPH is to improve health status and reduce health disparities in New Mexico. The IPH promotes and coordinates public health research, education, and services through collaborations within the HSC and with external partners. The Institute supports the development of public policy using scientifically derived information and public dialogue. Examples of ongoing research projects that actively engage at the community level: 1. Emerging Infections Program and Pandemic Preparedness for Counties, both done in collaboration with the Department of Health, 2. The Southwest Addictions Research Group, which conducts translational research within minority communities. The IPH oversees public health education, including the MPH Program. It has just completed regional MPH training in Shiprock and anticipates additional such programs. It conducts outreach public health traing programs around the state. IPH conducts research and generates health policy briefs on issues specific to NM.
