Project Description Community education - making families aware of symptoms and signs of bleeding disorders; making community Hospital Emergency Room (ER) physicians and nurses aware of bleeding disorders, their management in the ER, and follow-up; visiting schools and educating school nurses about bleeding disorders in children and their acute management; Our team has visited Southern NM (Ruidoso, Roswell, Hobbs, Las Cruces) last year and had educational sessions in local hospitals and ERs, as well as a family educational event. Additionally, we have had two 'Women with Bleeding Disorders' Retreats (one last year and one this year) - where educational sessions and workshops are held specifically targetting women with bleeding disorders, as well as carriers of the genetic defects that cause bleeding disorders like Hemophilia and von Willebrand Disease. These sessions have increased the knowledge base of the patients and their families affected with bleeding disorders, as well those of their providers in rural NM. The families have become advocates for their care, thus decreasing the morbidity and mortality associated with bleeding disorders. We have also been featured as an article in the 'Alliances' magazine - which is distributed through NM 1. Visits to local Hospitals in NM - we have divided the state into five regions - central, SW, SE, NE and NW region of New Mexico; Last year we visited the Southern regions - patients homes, clinics, and Hospital Emergency Rooms; We also held the Womens' retreats in Albuquerque, and provided resources for those attending from outside Albuquerque, including room and boarding.
