Project Description
PIBBS is the Program in Interdisciplinary Biological and Biomedical Sciences. It is a graduate training program based out of the UNM Biology Department. The program directors and program coordinator conceived of this model as philosophically important to the training of the graduate students here. The aim is to build an environmentally friendly educational environment for them. We support the philosophy that education should build and conserve resources, not consume them. We are trying to build a useable model that incorporates environmentally sustainable practices into the small office.

Our anticipated results are:
1. Environmental sustainabilty, in the office, on campus and in the community: Decreased use of raw resources/ increased awareness and decreased use of energy/resource saving office equipment, decreased use of non-sustainable petroleum products - especially in regards to ansporation/Recycling program
2. Fiscal sustainability: Longer lasting-energy saving equipment/improved awareness of buy-back programs/Reused-recycled-reclaimed office furniture/reused and recycled office supplies
3. Improved employee health: Zero VOC paint/Removal of all pcb's/laminates and off-gassing materials in the office environment/Full spectrum lighting/incorporating green plants to office environment for improved air quality/alternative transporation including biciyle commuting and walking
4. Community responsibilty: Increased awarness of resource/environmental impacts of small office systems on the larger environment and resulting managment plan
